Looking back from 2026, I still treat Apex Legends Season 11 as one of the cleanest examples of a map and a balance patch speaking the same language. Storm Point arrived as the largest map in the game, all vertical cliffs, long sightlines, thick canopy, water routes, and enough loot to make rotations feel like real decisions. I remember dropping in and feeling the map practically whisper to snipers and marksman players: take the high ground, hold the angle, make the long shot count. That is why the Season 11 weapon changes felt less like random nerfs and more like a conversation with the new battlefield. Honestly, it was a smart conversation.

The shotgun shake-up felt personal

Let’s be real: the EVA-8 had been bullying lobbies, especially in the hands of a player with a purple shotgun bolt. Its damage and close-range control were strong enough that Respawn slowed its fire rate slightly and pushed it back toward pre-Season 8 levels. On paper, that sounds like a funeral for one of my favorite close-range crutches. In practice, it was a reset button for the whole shotgun family.

The Peacekeeper and Mastiff suddenly had more room to breathe. The Mastiff gained the Dual Shell hop-up, which also works on the 30-30 Repeater. That hop-up lets you load two shells at once, cutting reload time in half. No joke, that changes the rhythm of a fight. You can pressure, break line of sight, reload, and get back into the argument much faster. The goal was clear: give me a reason to pick a Peacekeeper over an EVA-8, or a Mastiff over either one. The EVA-8 nerf sounded gut-wrenching at the time, but it was an attempt to level out the shotgun meta instead of letting one weapon hog the spotlight.

Season 11 change How it felt in my hands
EVA-8 fire rate slowed Less spam, more commitment 😅
Mastiff Dual Shell Faster reloads and stronger push timing
30-30 Repeater Dual Shell A flexible mid-range option with better uptime
Peacekeeper and Mastiff adjustments More reasons to experiment beyond the EVA-8

Storm Point made long-range fights feel natural

Storm Point is the biggest map yet, and I mean that in a way that changes how I move. The verticality is not just scenery. Tall buildings, sharp cliffs, and a very obvious canopy of woods below create layers. Down in the trees, I can break sightlines and heal. Up on the ridges, I can punish rotations. The water areas feel designed for escapes and flanks too. Short-range, mid-range, and long-range combat all feel viable, which is rare. On other maps I often settle into a mid-range comfort zone. On Storm Point, I find myself actually planning around a marksman weapon.

That is where the sniper and marksman changes come in. Care Packages now spawn with weapons at a higher rate, 50% in the early game and 100% in the endgame. That means more Krabers and more G7 Scouts across every map, though I felt it most on Storm Point. The G7 Scout moved into the Care Package, replacing the Triple Take. To account for that shift, the Kraber got a slight nerf, while the Care Package G7 got a buff and the Double Tap trigger back. The Care Package starts handing out party favors, and suddenly every late game has a little more long-range danger.

I like what that does to decision-making. Do I take the safe ground loot and play close? Do I chase the Care Package and commit to the long game? Storm Point does not force one answer, and that is the point. The map and the weapon changes were not identical twins, but they were clearly on the same team.

Other maps certainly felt the effects too. Kings Canyon, World’s Edge, and Olympus still had their own rhythms, and the shotgun and sniper tweaks did not ignore them. But Storm Point was the stage where those changes made the most sense. From my 2026 vantage point, Season 11 is old news in the patch notes, yet the lesson still lands: when a map asks a new question, the weapons should answer it. And for me, Storm Point asked me to stop treating the EVA-8 as a security blanket and start respecting the long angle...
